Kenya the Lion

A new male lion named Kenya has taken up residence in the Zoo’s Lion Exhibit.  He is 5 years old and weighs about 500 pounds.  Described as a “handsome cat” by some, he is a tawny golden brown color with a very impressive mane.  He came to the Louisville Zoo from St. Paul’s Como Zoo in Springfield, Missouri.

Kenya joins 7-year-old female twins Amanda and Kariba.  For safety reasons he will be gradually introduced to the females one at a time.

These lions will not breed because the lineages of Amanda and Kariba can not be adequately documented. They were born at the Wildlife Way Station, a sanctuary for former pets in California.  However, having the three lions together will provide a more realistic social grouping for the animals.
