Louisville Zoo Receives
Major Gift for Glacier Run
The Louisville, KY, January 11, 2007 - The
Louisville Zoo is pleased to announce a $1 million gift from
Brown-Forman Corporation to the Glacier Run Exhibit capital campaign. To
date $9.4 million has been pledged to the project which is scheduled to
open in 2009. The goal for this comprehensive campaign is $25 million,
which includes a $2 million general endowment. Accepting the gift on
behalf of the Zoo, Director John Walczak expressed his gratitude to
Brown-Forman for their generosity. “Brown-Forman has supported the Zoo
at every key point in its history,” said Walczak, “and today they have
stepped up once again.”
Brown-Forman has been a major contributor
to the Louisville Zoo since the 1970s with donations to The Islands,
Gorilla Forest and participation in the fundraising event Zoofari
totaling more than $1.7 million.
“The Louisville Zoo is a wonderful asset
for our community and Glacier Run is an innovative, cutting edge exhibit
that we are excited to support,” said Brown-Forman President and CEO
Paul Varga. “Our company’s heritage is one of proud corporate
citizenship, a heritage we share with the Zoo – a true community
treasure,” he continued.
In thanking Brown-Forman for the gift,
Glacier Run Capital Campaign co-chairs Sandra Frazier and Allan Latts
described the pledge as “pace setting.” “I am confident that it will
stimulate the interest of other companies and foundations,” said Latts.
“This gift is an outstanding example of the tremendous support the Zoo
receives from the community,” said Sandra Frazier who is also on the
Board of Brown-Forman.
