FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
How
to remember
baby elephant Scotty
The entire Zoo family is mourning the loss of
baby elephant Scotty. He was beloved throughout the community, and we
know that others share in our grief.
There are several options for those who wish to
memorialize Scotty:
-
You are invited to share special memories,
photos or drawings of Scotty on the Zoo’s
Facebook page or mail them to the Zoo (1100 Trevilian Way,
Louisville KY 40213) where they will be kept in a scrapbook.
-
Donations can be made to the Zoo in memory
of Scotty which will benefit elephant conservation. As a wonderful
Zoo ambassador, as well as an ambassador for his relatives in the
remnant wild, Scotty provided an opportunity for visitors to make
emotional connections and change behaviors that we hope will
positively impact elephant conservation.
***
Scotty was born March 18, 2007, at the
Louisville Zoo to mom Mikki. He was the first elephant born in Kentucky
and the Zoo’s 40-year history.
***
The
Louisville Zoo, a non-profit organization and state zoo of Kentucky,
is dedicated to bettering the bond between people and our planet by
providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for
visitors, and leadership in scientific research and conservation
education. The Zoo is accredited by the American Association of
Museums (AAM) and by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
