Louisville Zoo orangutans and siamangs to
receive early Christmas enrichment gifts
WHAT | Christmas will come a little
early for some Louisville Zoo primates—orangutans and siamangs—when
they receive some special gifts and holiday food enrichment.
WHEN | Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at 2
and 3 p.m.
WHY | Animal enrichment is an
important aspect of animal management at the Louisville Zoo and
provides animals with mental and physical stimulation to increase
natural and healthy behavior as well as curiosity and play. In other
words, it makes our animals’ lives fun!
WHO | Jane Anne Franklin, Louisville
Zoo Supervisor of Animal Training, will be on hand to answer
orangutan, siamang and enrichment questions.
Primates that will take part in the
Christmas present and holiday food enrichment include:
-
Orangutans
inside Islands exhibit (2 p.m.) — Our apes love hot and spicy
food, so see what happens when they dig into some seasonal
festive red and green pepper treats!
-
Baby siamangs
inside Islands exhibit (3 p.m.) — Watch these three little ones’
eyes light up as they receive some special gifts.
WHERE | Louisville Zoo – Please call
prior to coverage and sign in at the receptionist’s desk in the
administration building. You will be escorted inside the Islands
exhibit.
Note: The Louisville Zoo is open
year round and only closed on Christmas, New Year’s Day and
Thanksgiving.
