Do you take in animals?
No. The Zoo simply does not have the space or resources to house
ex-Pets
or animals other than those in our collection.

What should I do if I find an injured animal?
If you find an injured or orphaned animal such as a bird or squirrel, please DO
NOT bring it to the Zoo.

Do you charge for parking?
No, not during normal Zoo hours. For special after-hours events such
as "The World's Largest Halloween Party!", we
currently charge a $5.00 parking fee.

Can I bring food or coolers into the Zoo?
Food and coolers are welcome at the Louisville Zoo. We have
several picnic areas that are wonderful for an afternoon meal
alongside nature. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited and picnic tables are
available on a first come-first served basis.

I'm a member. Do I need anything
other than my membership card to enter the Zoo?
We ask that members ALWAYS bring a photo ID for any adult members
named on the card that are coming in to the Zoo.

I am a member of another Zoo,
can I use my membership and enter the Louisville Zoo for free?
If
your current membership is held with a Zoo that participates in the
American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) reciprocal program with
the Louisville Zoo, you may receive free or discounted general
admission to the Zoo during regular hours. The discount applies to
admission only and does not include special or after hours events.

Can I use my membership at the
Newport Aquarium?
The Newport Aquarium provides a $3.00 discount on
regular admission for Louisville Zoo members when they present your
valid Louisville Zoo membership card at the Newport Aquarium. This
offer cannot be combined with any other coupons or discounts, is not
valid for one-line ticket purchases and is not redeemable for cash.

When is the best time to see
the gorillas?
Like humans, gorillas do not have a set time for activity. Usually, early
in the morning and in the late afternoon/evening is when they are more
energetic.

How many animals do you have?
The Louisville Zoo has over 1,300 animals exhibited in beautiful natural
settings. Favorites include gorillas, lions, tigers, penguins, pygmy
hippos, orangutans, reptiles, hundreds of colorful birds and many more.

Do you have motorized wheelchairs?
We have 4
motorized wheelchairs/scooters that may be rented for $26 per day on
a first-come
–
first-served basis. A drivers' license/photo ID is required. We
also have a limited number of non-motorized wheelchairs that are
available for $8 per day also on a first come – first served basis. Please
note there is a 300 pound weight limit for the electric scooters due
to the hilly terrain.
You may also want to consider utilizing the ZooTram that circles the
Zoo and drops visitors off at key stops along the way. There is a
$2.00 per day fee for unlimited use of the tram.

Where can I buy Bamboo like that used in Gorilla Forest?
The Louisville Zoo uses
several different varieties of Bamboo. The predominant ones are "Yellow
Grove" & "Nuda." The
best source of Bamboo in the Louisville area is Richard Wolford in Middletown
(245-6097). But he warns all to be careful because bamboo can become invasive
and precautions should be taken to keep it in check.

Can
you see the animals during "The World's Largest Halloween Party!" at the
Louisville Zoo?
For the animal's health and safety exhibits are not open
beyond dusk with the exception of the HerpAquarium.
