Welcome to the Louisville Zoo

Spotlights

Gorilla baby born!
A baby Western lowland gorilla was born on Saturday, February 6 to 20-year-old mother Mia Moja.  It is the first gorilla baby born in North America this year and the second gorilla ever born in the Louisville Zoo’s 41-year history. Details of a naming contest will be announced later. Click here to see photos and read more.

New giraffe baby born!
A new baby Masai giraffe was born on Monday, January 11, 2010, to 22-year-old mother Mariah. This calf is the 20th giraffe to be born in the Louisville Zoo’s 40 year history. A naming contest is planned and details will be announced at a later date. Click here to see photo and a video!

Gorilla baby on the way!
Western lowland gorilla Mia Moja is pregnant and is expected to give birth by late March! This will be the second gorilla ever born at the Louisville Zoo. Since there are only 353 western lowland gorillas in 52 zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, each birth is a celebration of life and a step toward preserving the species.
