Party for the Planet:
A Month-Long Celebration
of the Earth

One day isn’t enough to celebrate the wonder of our planet, the Louisville Zoo is hosting a month long party. During the week, guests can enjoy zookeeper presentations and animal encounters while every weekend in April will be filled with special activities. Here are just a few of the things planned for our Party for the Planet sponsored by Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company.

Saturdays, April 6, 13, 20 and 27

ZooPoopyDoo Compost and Mulch Sale

7:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Arctic Ambassadors Weekend                                                       Saturday, April 6

Featuring Tundra & Griswald

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The fun will be unBEARable as Zoo mascots, Tundra and Griswald, make appearances throughout the day in Glacier Run. The MetaZoo’s Education Center staff will share bear bio-facts and information. Be sure to bring your camera!

Sunday, April 7

Eco-Partner Exhibitor: Louisville Water Company

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.                                                                                                                                    Explore how the Louisville Water Company cleans the water you use every day and how water is used by our Zoo animals.

Saturday & Sunday, April 13 – 14

Wonderland Tea Party for the Planet

Session Times: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Don’t be late! The Mad Hatter is visiting the Zoo to host a zany tea party.

Eco-Partner Exhibitor: Kentucky Science Center

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Jump down the rabbit hole with the Kentucky Science Center! Help us "paint the roses red" in the Queen of Hearts' garden as we explore colorful cellular respiration. Discover the science behind the Caterpillar's misty shapes through our interactive dry ice experiments. And don't worry...As the White Rabbit always says, we won't be "later for this very important date" because we're investigating the properties of clockwork time.

Saturday, April 20

Creepy, Crawly and Cool

Featuring Froggy and Eco-Partner Exhibitor: Kentucky Herp Society

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

If you like the creepy and crawly, than this is a day you won’t want to miss. Experience live creepy crawlies and learn from zookeepers about the many ways these under-appreciated animals contribute to the natural world. Enjoy a photo opportunity with Froggy, the star of the Froggy series of books by Jonathan London.

Sunday, April 21

Earth Day Festival

Featuring Eco-partner displays

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

$2 Zoo Admission, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. (exit by 6 p.m.) – No parking fee

Come celebrate Earth Day at the Zoo, and enjoy $2 admission courtesy of LG&E and Kentucky Utilities Company. Spend the day learning about the Zoo’s conservation efforts and visit environmental displays featuring some of our eco-partners. Limited online tickets are available - Click here to purchase.

Backyard Bash Weekend

Saturday & Sunday, April 27-28

Featuring Larry and Bob from Veggie Tales

10 a.m. - 2 p.m.                                                                                      Meet the biggest veggies on TV, Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato from Veggie Tales. Larry and Bob will be at the Zoo from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Don't forget your cameras!

Eco-Partner Exhibitor:
Kentucky Orchid Society

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Learn some great gardening tips that will make your neighbors green with envy. The Kentucky Orchid Society will have orchids on display and for purchase.

Sunday, April 28

Eco-Partner Exhibitor: Louisville Bat’s Buddy Bat

Noon - 2 p.m.

Trashformation

The judging is complete! Join us on Earth Day, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Glacier Run for a Press Conference where Mayor Fischer will announce the winners. The was the first year for the Trashformation recyclable art contest for students grades K-12 and the level of participation was amazing. Winning art will be exhibited at Glacier Run. All other entries will be showcased in Zoo Vision.
