EDUCATION: SPRING 2010

Family classes

Our family classes have been created for families that like to learn together. Class material will meet the needs of all but is especially appropriate for young learners ages four and up. These classes work well for children who are not ready to attend a class on their own.

Breakfast with the Orangutans

Saturday, February 20, 8:30 – 10 a.m.

Escape the winter blues by spending the morning with the orangutans. You don’t need to travel to Indonesia to experience the rainforest! Come and enjoy a continental breakfast and learn about these amazing animals. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost per person: Regular $15; Members $10

Family of 4: Regular; $50; Member $35

Granola with the Gorillas

Saturday, March 6, 8:30 – 10 a.m.

Start off your day with the gorillas as you enjoy a simple morning snack of granola bars and juice. Learn about the different personalities that exist in our different gorilla groups and participate in a few fun projects! 

Cost per person: Regular $15; Members $10

Family of 4: Regular $50; Members $35

Youth Programs & Camps

Spring Break Camp

(Ages 6-12)

April 5 – 9, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Turn Spring Break into a wild and wonderful animal safari! This fun and educational program will explore a variety of themes through Zoo walks, close up contact with animals, as well as crafts and activities. This program is designed for ages 6-12. Campers should bring a sack lunch with a drink.

Cost: Regular $190; Members $175

Two by Twos - Make Way For Ducklings

(Two Year olds and adult)

It’s spring and birds are busy building nests. Come and learn what this activity is all about. This program is designed for two year olds and a parent/grand parent. This experience will promote, through interactive learning, positive feelings about the world around them. Children must be accompanied by an adult and must have reached the age of two by the date of class. Due to the limited classroom space, we ask that only one adult attend with the child per session.

Thursday, April 15, 9 – 10 a.m.

Saturday, April 17,  9 - 10 a.m.

Cost per session (1 adult and 1 child): Regular $25; Members $20

 

Two by Threes - Who's Peeking Out of that Hole?

(Three year olds and adults)

You and your youngster will learn about animals the live underground in this “hands-on” class. This program gives a parent and his/her three-year old an opportunity to explore and learn together. Children must be accompanied by an adult and must be three by the date of the class. Due to limited classroom space, we ask that only one adult attend with the child per session. Extra adults will be charges a $10 fee.

Saturday, April 17, 11 a.m. – Noon

Cost per session (1 adult & 1 child): Regular $25; Members $20

ZOOper Kids - A Worm for Dinner

(Ages 4-5)

ZOOpers kids programs are for children ages four and five. ZOOper kids enjoy encounters with our education animals, crafts, storybooks and a short animal tour. There are many creatures that depend on the earthworm for food, and we depend on them for keeping our soil fertile. Kids will examine these important animals up close along with some of the creatures that depend on them. This is a child only program.

cancellation and Refund Policy

  1. Individuals who wish to cancel their registration in any class must notify the Education Department, in writing, no less than one week prior to the actual date of the class. We will refund 80% of the class fee upon receipt of a written or email (danita.robbins@louisvilleky.gov) cancellation.
    There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than one week prior to class date.
  2. The Education Department reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient registration.
  3. There will be a $10 service charge for any changes in the original registration.
  4. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

Registration Information

Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and camps fill quickly. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

  1. Online registrations through our eTicket Store are available unless otherwise noted. Only credit card payments accepted.  Confirmations are automatically emailed with your ticket. Please be sure to "view and print" your eTickets.
  2. For mail in registrations, download a Spring Registration Form. Payments must be received with the registration form at least two weeks to the preferred session. Confirmations will be mailed to you. Please make your check payable to the Louisville Zoo.
  3. Reservations will not be taken over the phone.
