Name the Baby Zebra Contest
May 13 - 26, 2013
The Louisville Zoo and Floyd Memorial Birthing Center invite you to help name our beautiful new female zebra calf born in January, 2013.
Louisville Zoo keepers will select three names as finalists from names submitted during the contest period from May 13 - 26, 2013. The public will then be invited to vote on the three finalists by means of a kiosk placed on the Zoo’s front plaza June 10 – 23, 2013. Votes can be placed by making a contribution via coins or bills into slots in the kiosk representing a favorite name. The name with the highest total donations will be the winner and announced the week of June 24, 2013.
All proceeds support the Zoo’s efforts to provide excellent care for animals, a great Zoo experience for you, and important conservation education programs.

Submit Names
Entries accepted through 5 p.m. Sunday, May 26 (in person) and by midnight May 26 (online). You could win the honor of naming the baby Zebra and receive some great prize packages! You may enter as many different names as you like, but each entry MUST include at least one name suitable for a female zebra. Submit your name suggestions online by completing and submitting the form below (Details on other ways to submit name suggestions are contained in the Official Contest Rules below.) No purchase necessary.
Naming Parameters:
Names must be submitted using the standard western alphabet (Roman or Latin alphabet). If African names are provided, English translations (the meaning of the names) and proper pronunciation must be provided.
Prizes
The zoo will select three names as finalists from those submitted during the contest. The public can then cast a vote for their favorite name at our voting kiosk located in the Zoo’s Front Plaza. Votes are cast by making a contribution via coins or bills for their favorite name. The name with the highest total donations will be the winner and announced the week of June 24, 2013. All proceeds support the Zoo’s mission to provide excellent care for animals, a great experience for our guest and important conservation and education programs.
Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
- One grand prize will be awarded which includes: A behind-the-scenes tour and rare bonding session with the Zebra foal, four Louisville Zoo Adventure tickets, items from the Zoo's gift shop and a commemorative video DVD documenting our orphaned polar bear cub, Qannik's first year of life and journey to Louisville.
- Two alternate prizes will be awarded to the other two finalists: four Louisville Zoo Adventure tickets, items from the Zoo's gift shop and a commemorative video DVD documenting our orphaned polar bear cub, Qannik's first year of life and journey to Louisville.

Official Contest Rules
The Louisville Zoo is soliciting suggestions for names for a female Hartmann's mountain zebra foal.
- There is no purchase necessary to enter or win the Louisville Zoo’s Giraffe Naming Contest.
- There is no limit to the number of name ideas each individual may submit. However, each entry must be submitted separately.
- Names must be submitted in one of three ways:
- All website submissions should be sent via the Zoo’s website at louisvillezoo.org/contest. Submission must include: Suitable name ideas for a female zebra, entrant’s full name (and parent or guardian if you are 17 or younger), mailing address, daytime phone number and e-mail address. Submissions, which fail to include any of the aforementioned required information, will not be considered. All names submitted via the internet/email must be received by midnight EST on Sunday, May 26, 2013.

- Process: Louisville Zoo will select three finalists for the giraffe name from the names submitted during the contest period May 13 - 26, 2103. Winners will receive a prize package as listed below. Finalists will be announced after May 26, 2013. The public will then be invited to vote for the winning name by means of a kiosk placed in the Zoo’s plaza June 10 - 23, 2013. Votes can be placed by making a contribution via coins into the slot representing the favorite name. The name with the highest total donations will be the winner and will be notifed the week on June 24. All proceeds support the Zoo’s efforts to provide excellent care for animals, a great Zoo experience for you, and important conservation education programs. The person submitting the winning name will be the grand prize winner and those submitting the two alternate names will receive alternate prizes.
- The Louisville Zoo is not obligated to use any of the name submissions and may elect to create its own names for use independent of the contest. In the event that none of the name submissions are used as the final giraffe name, an entry will be selected as the runner-up name and the individual who submitted the selected runner-up name will be awarded the prize package.
- In the event a winning name is submitted by more than one entrant, a random drawing by a Zoo official of the duplicates will determine the winner.
- Contest entrants will not be compensated or reimbursed for their name submissions. All name entries become sole property of the Louisville Zoo. Not responsible for lost, late, or misdirected entries.
- Zebra name judging and selection will be done by the Louisville Zoo. All decisions are final.
- Prizes: The person submitting the winning name will win a prize package that includes a behind-the-scenes tour and rare bonding session with the zebra foal. The grand prizer winner and two finalists will also receive a prize packing including four Zoo Adventure tickets, items for the Zoo’s gift shop and a commemorative video DVD documenting our orphaned polar bear cub, Qannik’s first year of life and journey to Louisville.
- All prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash; no substitution will be made except as provided herein at the Louisville Zoo’s sole discretion. Louisville Zoo reserves the right to substitute any prize for one of equal or greater value if the designated prize should become unavailable. Winners are responsible for all taxes and fees associated with the prize receipt and/or use. The winners’ name will be posted on the zoo’s website following verification and acceptance.
- Winners of the Contest prizes will be notified via telephone and e-mail no later than June 24 and must execute an affidavit of eligibility and waiver of liability release within 7 days of notification or an alternate winner will be selected. The winner’s name will be posted on the Zoo’s website following verification and acceptance.
- Contest entrants agree that, if their name submission is selected as a winner, the Louisville Zoo may use the entrant’s name and likeness for promotional purposes including, but not limited to, official press release announcing the names and Contest winners; optional appearance at event announcing the names and winning entrants; and official announcement on organizations’ websites.
- Contest is open to legal residents of the United States of America. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply and all taxes are the responsibility of the winner.
- Employees (and their immediate family members) of the Louisville Zoo and Floyd Memorial Hospital are not eligible to win the Giraffe Naming Contest.
