Special Team Projects

Special Team projects are large projects that utilize a great number of resources. Each project is unique and would appeal to those with all sorts of expertise from avid gardeners to those with mechanical ability. Most projects require interested parties to give a 30 day notice for the Zoo to gather materials and supplies needed. The Horticulture and Maintenance Departments will work together for several Special Team Projects this year. The following projects are just a sample of some of the Special Team Projects available. Most are weather dependent:

  • Puma planter landscape renovation and retaining wall reconstruction.

  • Ongoing plant bed clean up including leaf removal, trimming back ornamental grasses and mulching.

  • Clearing of debris from gutters and roof overhangs

  • Large planting installations such as tree and shrub planting, bulb plantings, annual plantings and tropical plantings.

If you are interested in being a part of ongoing Special Team Projects at the Louisville Zoo, please contact the Volunteer Department at (502) 238-5350 or email mary.taylor@louisvilleky.gov
