FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A baby elephant is
coming to your house!

Scotty, the Louisville Zoo’s baby elephant, will make  his way to 450,000 homes and businesses in Jefferson and Oldham Counties this month

The next time you come home, Scotty, the Louisville Zoo’s baby elephant, may be waiting for you!

That’s because Scotty is featured on the new cover of The User-Friendly Phone Book of Greater Louisville that will be delivered to approximately 450,000 businesses and households in Jefferson and Oldham counties in Kentucky starting November 3.

“The User-Friendly Phone Book is proud to feature Scotty, the first African elephant born in the state of Kentucky, on the front cover of this year’s Greater Louisville directory,” said Mary Beth Brendza, Vice President of Operations for The User-Friendly Phone Book. “The Louisville Zoo is a landmark and exemplifies the spirit of this great community. We are pleased to help increase awareness of the Zoo’s programs and accomplishments.”

The Zoo also has a featured spot in the phonebook’s community pages.

Louisville Zoo Director John Walczak noted that Scotty definitely is a community treasure.

“This is a special treat for every household and business in the Greater Louisville area,” Walczak said. “But I encourage people to not just put Scotty on a shelf and leave him—but come to the Zoo and see him in person! There is just something amazing about watching a 735-pound baby elephant roll in the mud and nuzzle with his mother. He is only a baby once, and you don’t want to miss it.”

The photo of Scotty featured on the phonebook’s cover was taken by Louisville photographer Nick Bonura in April.

“I am really excited and feel honored to have my photo of Scotty on the cover of the phone book,” Bonura said. “I’ve had so many people ask me what it was like to take Scotty’s portrait, and I tell them it was like shooting pictures of a 300-pound dog! Scotty was very playful the day of the shoot—he was probably just as curious about me and my camera as I was about him. And, as it goes with taking photos of children, I had a protective mother (Mikki) looking over my shoulder—only she weighed more than 8,000 pounds!”

So the next time you reach for the phone and can’t remember the number you were going to dial, ask Scotty for help and reach for The User-Friendly Phone Book.
