Name the baby elephant!
On March 18, the Zoo welcomed the first elephant
baby in the Zoo’s 38-year history. Now, you finally get your chance to name
him!
The elephant naming contest begins today, April
16, and entries must be received by 5 p.m. April 29.
It is presented by Norton Healthcare with
additional support from Frontier Airlines, Whole Foods Market, Lowe’s, WAVE
3 TV and 102.3 WXMA. There is no purchase necessary to enter.
“People stop me all the time bubbling with
excitement and say they have a name for the baby elephant,” Zoo Director
John Walczak said. “Well, now is their chance to name our big bundle of
joy.”
The baby elephant is currently on exhibit daily
from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m., weather permitting.
How to enter THE NAMING CONTEST:
You may enter the contest online at

www.wave3.com; by mail (1100 Trevilian Way, Louisville, KY 40213); or in
person at the Zoo, Norton Hospital, Norton Audubon Hospital, Norton Suburban
Hospital, Kosair Children’s Hospital or Whole Foods on Shelbyville Road.

Enter your name and your contact information.
Those under 18 years of age must include their parents’ or guardians’
name. Contest entries will be accepted from April 16 to 5 p.m. April 29.

Zoo staff will choose three names as finalists
for the elephant. Hint: African names may have a better chance of being
selected. These winners will receive a Zoo ticket prize pack, plush
elephant and $25 gift certificate from Whole Foods. Zoo visitors will be
invited to vote for the winning elephant name at the voting box on the
Zoo’s front plaza May 3 through May 24. Votes can be placed by making a
contribution via coins into the slot representing a favorite name. The
name with the highest total donations will be the winner. All proceeds
support the Zoo’s efforts to provide excellent care for animals, a great
experience for you, and a better future for all living things.

The grand prize winner of the contest will
receive a Zoo family membership, baby and mom plush elephant, two round
trip tickets from Frontier Airlines valued at $1,000, a $50 gift
certificate from Whole Foods, a Norton Healthcare prize basket, a Lowe’s
Charbroil Gas Grill and hide-a-way garden hose (together a $150 value),
and behind-the-scenes tour to meet baby and Mom with their keepers. The
grand prize winner (or a representative) must be available for the
announcement the week of May 28.

Employees (and their immediate family members)
of the Louisville Zoo and its supporting organizations and sponsors are
not eligible to win the naming contests.
